Reindeer food

This one's another great novelty card that's sure to be a winner at a school fair or craft fair and would be great for your own children or grandchildren. There are various reindeer food recipes and poems on the internet and some have glitter or confetti in the mixture for added sparkle. Don't use these if it's likely to be sprinkled outside though as it's dangerous to wildlife. Our simple recipe is animal-friendly.
An A5 hammer white card blank has been used here. The reindeer food poem can be downloaded for free by clicking here. Click on the link to open the image in Adobe Acrobat reader - if you need it you can download it for free by clicking on the button below.

Print this onto white hammer paper and trim around the poem so that it measures 19 x 6cm. Mount this onto a 20 x 7cm piece of Colossal paper - this one is a 'Let it snow' design. Attach to the card blank with double-sided tape.
The reindeer food packet can be downloaded for free by clicking here. Print this onto the back of another of the Colossal papers - this one's a Christmas tree design. Using a craft knife and ruler, carefully cut out the packet including the 'window' in the front (which will reveal the reindeer food). Fold carefully on the lines and assemble the packet with narrow double-sided tape. The reindeer food itself is made with a small amount of porridge oats and some coloured 'sprinkles' (hundreds and thousands). Mix them together and place in a small grip-seal bag - you won't need much of the mixture as it needs to be a fairly flat packet to stick on the card nicely. Close the grip-seal bag, fold over the packet top and slip inside the reindeer food packet. I've sealed the top of the packet with double-sided tape here but you may want to leave it open and just tuck the reindeer food packet inside to make it easily removable. Stick the packet at an angle to the right hand side of the card with double sided tape.
The reindeer panel consists of a 7 x 5.5cm piece of Colossal Christmas tree paper and a 5.5 x 4.5cm piece of snowflake card which can be downloaded for free by clicking here. Print this onto hammer white card. Stick the Colossal piece to the card blank with double-sided tape and add the snowflake card with sticky pads to raise it a little. Add a tan fun foam die-cut reindeer with Aleene's tacky glue, adding the goggle eyes and pom-pom nose with the same glue (you may need to hold the pom-pom or weight it gently with a stapler or something from your desk until the glue dries).
For the finishing touches, the little glass of milk is made with silver metallic card and white card, cut with a craft knife and ruler (the glass is 2cm tall). The straw is a little piece of dark red laid card that's been folded over to create the straw shape (stick with a sticky pad). The 'cookies' are cut from a scrap of tan fun foam with fancy-edged scissors - use a craft bradawl to make the holes. The reindeer food wording for the packet is on the same downloadable sheet as the poem. Cut it out and stick it to the pack with double sided tape. 6 little punched snowflakes have been added to decorate the reindeer head and the card. Add these with Aleene's tacky glue and decorate with little clear gems. |
